Database Administrator
Location : Washington D.C.
Duration : Full time
Qualifications:
Prospective employee should have good communication skills as well as a strong understanding of all Microsoft platforms including the setup and maintenance of the following:
Minimum of three years of previous administrator experience or equivalent, including proficiency in problem determination and performance measurement and strong working knowledge of operating systems, subsystems and computer networks.
Experience in configuring, implementing, administering, and troubleshooting distributed Windows servers and SQL databases.
Position Responsibilities/Duties:
Maintains all SQL Server (95%) and Oracle (5%) databases including setup, configuration, administration, tuning, trouble-shooting, data manipulation and backups
May work closely with software developers performing database design, database architecture, SQL programming, consultation and technical guidance with SQL server and Oracle databases
Performs requirements gathering, business design, technical design, development, testing, implementation. writing reliable and efficient code, queries, stored procedures, cursors, triggers and scripting in SQL Server and Oracle
Recommends hardware configurations as they pertain to database performance and high availability
Performs database performance monitoring and tuning, including advanced skills in the effective use of database tools such as query analyzer
Responsible for the organization, security and protection of the databases and data
Provides daily operational activities such as backups/restores, application troubleshooting, log monitoring, adds, moves and changes
Works with other Technology Team members, Product Networking and Tech Support for any application development, network plans, trouble-shooting, implementations and changes on the database servers
Assume the technical lead for SQL Server and online database projects
Participates in the on call production support rotation and may occasionally be required to do work at the office during non-business or late night hours
Audit, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands, hand-editing, and bulk import
Troubleshoot and correct issues as they arise
Ensure system is running smoothly
Add new users to the system as needed
Plan and coordinate security measures alongside network administrators
Enhance or build database designs
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in Windows 2003/2008/2012 OS, Redhat Linux, SQL Server 2000 – 2014, Oracle 10g and 11g plus other software programs required .
Education : Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience preferred
